Vinho Verde DOC wines are well balanced, light in alcohol, aromatic and fresh wines from nine small areas in Northern Portugal. They were the first Portuguese wines to be known out of the country; the area known as the Vinho Verde Region was chartered and declared DOC in 1908. The Vinho Verde sub-regions are Amarante, Ave, Baião, Basto, Cávado, Lima, Monção e Melgaço, Paiva e Sousa.

Vinho Verde is not green in color nor does it come from green grapes. The name stems from the region’s lush vegetation and from the wines’ bright and youthful character.

The best known grape varieties used to produce Vinho Verde are all white and include Avesso, Loureiro, Alvarinho, Arinto, Azal and Trajadura.

Vinho Verde is often drunk as an “aperitif” but it is perfect to accompany light summer meals. Try our wine with salads, sea food, white meats, sushi and sashimi, simple pasta dishes and cheese.
